Preserving and promoting the Blues in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia

The Victoria Blues Society is presenting a special event Blues Picnic in the Park from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday July 25th, 2026 at the Cameron Bandshell in beautiful Beacon Hill Park. We're celebrating 20 years of promoting and preserving blues in Victoria, BC, we wanted to thank Victoria BC for supporting the work we do! 

This FREE event will feature 6 amazing bands including the Paul Black Band, Swang Thang, Blue Screamers, Lazy Mike and the Argyle Jets, the Blues Collective and Rhythm Train. 

A few things to remember to make the most of your day:

• There is limited bench seating available or bring a blanket. 
• There are both sunny and shady areas throughout the idea. 
• Wear your sunscreen and/or bring a hat.
• Bring a picnic or grab food at the local drive-in or neighbourhood merchants. 
• This is a waste free event - take out what you bring in. 
• This is a no alcohol, all ages event. 
• Bring refreshments to drink as there is no concession on site.

Steve Strongman , Canadian Guitar Ace, JUNO winner, and Multiple Maple Blues Award winner Steve Strongman has just co-produced, co-written, and guested on the Fabulous Thunderbird’s 50th Anniversary 2024 release “Struck Down, on Stony Plain records.

Suzie Vinnick, a Saskatoon native transplanted to the Niagara Region of Ontario, Roots and Blues singer and musician, Suzie Vinnick is a 3X Juno Nominee, a 2X Canadian Folk Music Award winner, won a 2024 ECMA with her project A’Court, Spiegel and Vinnick and is a 12-time winner of the Maple Blues Award for songwriting, female vocalist, acoustic act and more. Suzie has a voice you’ve heard a thousand times and one you’ll never forget. It soars, it growls, it whispers and it shouts from a deep, deep well of emotion. The pure joy she exudes when she plays her guitars is so worth the show.

There will be some surprises from the all star band such as Harmonica wiz Ethan Askey. Since1994 Ethan has played throughout western Canada, as well as legendary stages in Memphis and Chicago; and at festivals, theatres and clubs across Europe from the Alps to the Baltic Sea. With a wide diversity of independent artists he has collaborated in both live performance and studio session work.

At our event Friday March 6th, VBS was thrilled to receive a most generous donation of $3,000, presented by Frank Hudson of the Victoria Whisky Festival.

These funds will be directed to our John Fisher Memorial Legacy Fund which supports blues education and training. With wonderful support like this, along with funds raised from all the great folks who buy 50/50 tickets at our events, VBS is able to support 3 students to attend Hornby Island Blues Camp in May. Thank you so much for your generous support!!

The Victoria Blues Society (VBS) offers an annual scholarship to the Hornby Island Blues Camp through the John Fisher Memorial Fund.

We are proud to announce that Daniel Rochat, Noah Treacher, and Emil Makeev have been selected to attend the 2026 camp.
